Picking a platform is not a holy war. Here is the straight read from an agency with 100+ creator accounts, a documented single-creator top month of $352k and a portfolio where more than 80% of revenue runs through DMs. OnlyFans is the global market leader. 4Based is the German-speaking challenger out of Berlin, with a GDPR focus and a lower platform fee. Both have their place, but not for the same use case. Below is what we actually see in real account setups.
OnlyFans wins almost everywhere revenue comes from DMs, no matter if the creator is based in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. 4Based has a clear role in our portfolio as a second channel for German-speaking whales, with lower fees and cleaner GDPR documentation. Creators who start on 4Based instead of OnlyFans lose roughly a factor of 3 to 5 in revenue over the first twelve months in our observations.
Ten criteria that actually move the needle in daily account work. No marketing figures, just what we see inside our own portfolio:
| Criterion | OnlyFans | 4Based |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | UK, globally positioned | Germany (Berlin) |
| Reach | Market leader, global, hundreds of millions of registered users | Small, clear DACH focus |
| Platform fee | 20% (creator keeps 80%) | Roughly 15-20%, depending on programme |
| Interface language | English, some translations | Native German, fan UX familiar across DACH |
| Fan payment methods | Credit card directly, high acceptance | Credit card, PayPal, SEPA, Sofort, Apple Pay |
| Payouts | International bank transfer, sometimes indirect | SEPA, more direct for DE/AT/CH creators |
| DM & PPV tooling | Bulk PPV, lists, queues, scheduling, tips — industrial standard | Basic chat and PPV, no robust bulk tooling |
| Avg. spend per fan | $30-40 in our portfolio | Variable, usually below OF level |
| Marketing climate DACH | English-language tooling, less locally optimised | German promo templates, locally marketing-friendly |
| Data protection | US/UK infrastructure, GDPR only partially transparent | GDPR focus, server setup in Europe |
The core takeaway from the table: 4Based wins locally on language, payment and data protection. OnlyFans wins on reach, chat tooling and fans' willingness to pay. For DM-heavy setups like ours, the last row is usually what decides the monthly revenue number.
Reach is the point where the discussion usually ends. OnlyFans has the largest paying fanbase worldwide in the adult creator space, and fan willingness to pay is US-driven. A US fan spends on average $30-40 per month on OnlyFans without us actively working them. That is culturally priced in.
4Based is clearly smaller and works primarily with German-speaking fans. That is not a drawback as long as the creator serves exactly that audience. Native German-speaking whales, who are rarely addressed perfectly in the English-language OF feed, are often better taken care of on 4Based. The typical 4Based fan wants German content, German conversation, and German payment rails.
In our portfolio that means, in practice: a German-speaking creator with a strong EU fanbase runs OnlyFans as the main channel for international acquisition, and 4Based as a speciality channel for the 10 to 20 most loyal German whales. Revenue on 4Based rarely tops 20% of OF revenue, but churn there is lower, because those fans feel more at home linguistically and culturally.
On paper, 4Based wins on fees. Depending on the programme the platform takes roughly 15-20%, OnlyFans 20% as standard. Plus a referral model on 4Based, through which creators can share revenue with each other. That sounds attractive at first, but it is only part of the maths in practice.
This is where the gap is widest. Our revenue mechanics rely on an OnlyFans toolset that has no equivalent of similar depth on any alternative:
4Based is GDPR-native. The platform is set up in Germany, communicates in German, and provides creators with documentation that slots cleanly into a DACH business. Creators running a tax-clean sole-trader or GmbH structure in Germany, Austria or Switzerland often find 4Based's paperwork a lower point of friction.
OnlyFans is not hostile to data protection, but the documentation is in English, the processor-agreement logic is international, and DACH tax advisers often do not know the contract stack by heart. For a professionally set-up creator that is solvable, but it does cost upfront effort. For creators who want to avoid that hurdle, 4Based is the easier starting point here.
On the fan side, a German interface means a lower drop-off rate at checkout, especially among payers aged 40 and up, who often stall in English-language UI flows. A meaningful share of whales sits in that group, particularly in the DACH region.
From our practice, there are three scenarios in which we actively set up 4Based as a second account:
For the large majority of creators in our portfolio, OnlyFans is not "also an option", it is the base without which the rest does not function. Three cases in which we never recommend 4Based as the main channel:

In almost all cases, no. Creators who came to us wanting to move fully to 4Based, either as a test or out of conviction, typically see a revenue drop of a factor of 3 to 5 in the first twelve months. The German fanbase is real, but not large enough to close the reach and tooling gap against OnlyFans.
No. The fee is a cost line, not a revenue lever. An account that generates $40 per fan on OnlyFans brings the creator $32. An account that generates €20 per fan on 4Based brings the creator €16-17. The platform with the lower fee is therefore irrelevant if the revenue per fan is simply lower.
For German-speaking creators with a strong DACH fanbase who are already established on OnlyFans and want a second channel for native German-speaking whales. Also as a backup account against OnlyFans main-account risk. As a sole main platform only in exceptional cases (for example, when OnlyFans payouts are unavailable).
Fansly is the direct OnlyFans clone with a global footprint and solid reach as a backup. 4Based is smaller, but locally stronger in the DACH region on language, payment and legal framework. As a backup platform, Fansly is more universal; as a speciality channel for German whales, 4Based is the better fit.
The OnlyFans rules explicitly ban advertising other paid platforms in DMs and posts. The clean route: an external landing page (Linktree or your own domain) with both channels, and promote that landing externally. Direct cross-posts risk warnings up to bans in both directions.
4Based. Infrastructure in Germany, German-language processor-agreement documents, direct SEPA payouts. For creators who want a tax-clean commercial setup in DACH, 4Based is the lower-friction option. OnlyFans is not hostile to privacy, but the documentation is in English and internationally structured.
Two reasons. First, reach: OnlyFans has the much larger paying fanbase, including among native German speakers worldwide. Second, tooling: Infloww, the chatter tool our entire DM workflow is built on, does not support 4Based as of April 2026. Each hour of 4Based DMs therefore costs more chatter input for less revenue than on OF.
OnlyFans vs 4Based is not the question of "who is better", it is "for what". OnlyFans is the infrastructure a DM-heavy creator business scales on, with reach, tooling and willingness-to-pay that 4Based structurally cannot match. 4Based is the platform that delivers local advantages in the DACH region: language, SEPA, GDPR, a marketing-friendly climate. The best strategy for most German-speaking creators is not a choice between the two, but a deliberate split of work.
